Our staff is a blend of seasoned and young engineers which brings both experience and new ideas to each design. We are proud to have staff that holds multiple professional engineer licenses, RCDD registration and LEED® accreditation. We have completed hundreds of projects over the last two decades which include educational, medical, institutional, industrial, commercial, and civic facilities; outdoor lighting design; and high voltage primary distribution.
The company’s philosophy, which includes adhering to the contract documents and putting the Owner’s interest first, has allowed us to design and oversee the installation of hundreds of trouble-free electrical systems.

Where I grew up: I was born in Valdosta, GA and raised in the Valdosta / Hahira area. I am the oldest of five siblings and grew up working in the family business of electrical contracting and farming.
My Family: I met my wife Amy in college at Clemson University on the water ski team. We have been married since 1992. We are the parents of five adult children (Marshall, Sam, Catherine, Caroline, and Thomas). All of my kids live relatively close by in South Carolina and Georgia.
When I got interested in electrical engineering: From an early age, I worked with my father at his electrical contracting company. I enjoyed working with my hands (still have my pair of Klein Sidecutters!) and seeing a project under construction and being brought to a finished product. That led to a degree in electrical engineering and a desire to practice consulting electrical engineering and become a registered engineer.
When I’m not working, I might be: Spending time with my wife Amy, involved in church life at First Presbyterian Church (PCA) here in Augusta, visiting our kids and their spouses in Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston, spending time on the water, hunting and spending time outdoors, "tinkering" around the house and working on cars.
What I love about my work: I enjoy seeing a project go from "thoughts on paper" to an actual building. It's very rewarding to get to work with a diverse group of people to accomplish that goal. Working with owners, architects, fellow engineers, product representatives, contractors, subcontractors and a host of others to accomplish this goal is a challenge, but it brings a great sense of satisfaction to know that EDC was an integral part of making that happen. I take great pride in the projects we have worked on over the years in several southeastern states.
Education: I attended Clemson University, having graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I am a registered professional engineer in the states of Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.

Where I grew up: I was born near Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in Bay Minette, Alabama down near the Gulf Coast.
My Family: I have one beautiful daughter Emily, currently a junior at UAB in Birmingham in Honors College and very active in the Campus Outreach Christian program. I have only one sister who is a retired school teacher and now a principal. However, I am from a HUGE extended family as my mom is one of 12 brothers and sisters and my dad (deceased) is one of 9 brothers and sisters. I have over 300 aunts, uncles, and cousins downstream of my four grandparents.
When I got interested in electrical engineering: For Christmas when I was seven years old, I got a 65-In-One Electronic project kit for Christmas. I built all 65 different electronic devices and circuits and often modified and improved them. I have never wanted to do anything else for an occupation but electrical design/engineering since that time. I had several uncles who were engineers and electricians which helped to solidify my desire to become an electrical engineer.
When I’m not working, I might be: Restoring an old Studebaker or Chevy, Cruising in a 50th anniversary crimson colored corvette (Roll Tide) or down at the beach house in Perdido Key on my saltwater boat. I love the water (I AM a Pisces) and I spend a lot of time on a pontoon boat on the Warrior River in West Central Alabama. There is always a family member or two ready to go!
What I love about my work: Of course, my favorite part is the electrical design. I also love the professional community of Architects and Engineers from other trades I work with and learn from. I love the “packaging” aspect of putting together a complete set of design documents and overseeing them being implemented. I love to visit the sites where the work was completed to see how the ideas conveyed on paper turned out in the field. It is an awesome occupation, and I would never want to do anything else for a living.
Education: I am a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I am a licensed professional engineer in Georgia, Alabama, and Virginia. I am a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. I have served many years as the Appeals Engineer of Record for Macon-Bibb County Georgia. I am also an Alabama State Certified Fire Fighter.

Where I grew up: I grew up in Statesboro, Georgia home of the Georgia Southern Eagles!
My Family: I’m the proud husband of Elizabeth, and we have five awesome children who keep us moving.
When I got interested in electrical engineering: From my earliest days I remember wanting to work on and fix things. Many times, I may have broken it as well. In high school and through college, I worked in the electrical contracting business. Those years further assured me that I wanted to be an engineer. These days the solutions may be different, but the process of fixing things is very much the same.
When I’m not working, I might be: Most of my downtime these days is related to our church and family. As the kids grow older, it has been fun to introduce them to the things that I enjoy like hunting and a little golf when we can work it in.
What I love about my work: Each project that comes through our office is unique and comes with its own set of opportunities. I enjoy working with our clients, staff, and owners to manage the process of making them the most successful they can be.
Education: I am a Georgia Southern University graduate, holding a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology. I am a registered PE in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, and hold an unrestricted electrical contractor license in the state of Georgia. I am a member of the Georgia Chapter of the USGBC.

Where I grew up: Wrens, GA
My Family: I am from a close family (immediate and extended). My parents are Jimmy and Sharon Fleming of Wrens and I am the oldest of 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I am married to Bev and we have three step children and five grandchildren.
When I got interested in electrical engineering: As a child, I decided to place a bracelet around the prongs of a plug and plug it in. I saw the effects of electricity firsthand and from that point had a respect for it. I enjoyed math and science in school, so engineering was the field I wanted to go into.
When I’m not working, I might be: Playing tennis, at Lakemont Presbyterian (at church or deacon’s meetings); outside doing anything, swimming, at the beach, or at Disney with the family.
What I love about my work: I love the challenges it provides to stay up with the latest changes in technology, codes, software, and design practices; the relationships I’ve built over the years with the people in the office, clients, other engineers, product reps, contractors who have helped me grow in my career and as a person.
Education: I graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology. I am a registered PE in Georgia and South Carolina and hold RCCD registration.

Electrical Design Consultants was formed in October of 1973. The founding partners were Thomas S. Armour Jr., President; Jerry A Baxter, Jr., Executive Vice President; and Jack W. Center, Secretary. The partners were all former employees of Jones and Fellow Architects, Engineers and Planners and had worked together for many years prior to forming EDC.
Jerry A. Baxter, Jr.
Jack W. Center
Michael Mongrue
Two offices were opened; one in Columbia, South Carolina managed by Mr. Amour and one in Augusta, Georgia managed by Mr. Baxter. The South Carolina office focused on projects in the Columbia area where it had large Architectural and Engineering firms as competition. The Augusta office derived its projects from the two-state area working for clients such as the local military, Veteran’s Administration, medical and commercial facilities. It was decided mutually by the partners in 1981 that the two offices would dissolve the relationship and form separate corporations. The Columbia office would be known as Design Consultants, Inc. with Mr. Armour remaining President. The Augusta office would become Electrical Design Consultants, Inc. with Mr. Baxter becoming President and Mr. Center Vice President.
In 1991, Mr. Center became the president of the firm and Michael Mongrue was hired as a principal. Mr. Mongrue was promoted to Vice President in 1994. The firm saw continued growth and in 1996, M. Ashley Paulk III and Jeffrey H. McGee were both named partners. In that same year, Mr. McGee opened a new office in Macon, Georgia to better serve the growing clientele in the middle state area. Additional changes occurred in 1997, with Mr. Mongrue being promoted to President of the firm with both Mr. Paulk and Mr. McGee being named Vice Presidents. Mr. Baxter and Mr. Center both continued to work with the firm after their time as principals. Mr. Center retired fully in 1999 and Mr. Baxter continued working part time with the firm for several more years, coming in the office several days a week until 2005. EDC added an additional location in Savannah in January of 2020. The company has seen leadership transitions as Mr. Tom Brinson and Mr. Jef Fleming became principals and Mr. Mongrue retired as president. Please visit our About page to read about our current leadership at EDC.
